Akins blazes to 3 of 5 Girls Meet Records @ 61st Summa Inv

Distance

The first track event of the day was the girls' Elite 3200-meter run. St. Teresa's Academy junior Gracie Jacobs led the whole way, winning in 11:23 for the 10th fastest time in the state after the weekend. Blue Springs South's Emmerson Allen was 2nd in 11:26 with teammate Maggie Boley (UM-Kansas City commit) close behind in 3rd in 11:30. Fellow Jaguar Caitlin Grover (Graceland commit) was 6th in 11:43.

North Platte's Brianna Debord and Chloe Heckman were 8th and 9th in 11:47 and 11:55 and appeared to shock themselves. The times put them in the top 50 in the state and 2nd and 3rd in Class 2 after the weekend. They celebrated in disbelief after crossing the finish.

North Platte sophomore Brianna Debord can't believe how fast she just ran after crossing the Girls Elite 3200-meters in 7th in 11:47 for the 2nd fastest finish in Class 2 on the season at the time.

Coach Unruh's Blue Springs South ladies followed up the 3200-meter run success with victory in the 4x800. Hayley Neff anchored the Jaguars with a 2:22 split to finish in 9:55.

In the 1600, Rock Bridge freshman standout Mae Walker ran to victory in 5:16. She was followed by a wave of Blue Springs South Lady Jaguars in their neon green jerseys. Just like the 3200, Emmerson Allen and Maggie Boley were 2nd and 3rd in 5:20 and 5:24 while Hayley Neff and Caitlin Grover were 4th and 5th in 5:34.59 and 5:34.74. Rock Bridge's Amelie Crane was 6th in 5:35 and teammate Claire Richardson 8th in 5:40. North Platte's Chloe Heckman followed up her 3200m PR with a 7th-place 5:37.

In the 800, 3200m champ Gracie Jacobs and 1600m champ Mae Walker dueled over 2 laps. Jacobs got her second win of the day in 2:22.07 with Walker 2nd in 2:23.77. Fort Osage's Paige Franks was 3rd in 2:26.

Rock Bridge racked up 83.5 points to win the team title. Blue Springs South was 2nd with 76. Park Hill was 3rd (58 points), Liberty North 4th (54), and Liberty 5th (51). The reigning Class 2 state champions North Platte more than held their own, scoring 46 points to take 6th at the meet where 25 schools score.
