The Scoop: Team USA Junior Athletes Booking Trips to Peru And Dialing In On AAU Action

6a. Tyrese Cooper Ousted From USA Championships In 400m, Wins USA Jr. Championships in 200m And Claims Bid To Peru

We've wanted to see Miami Norland (Fl.) High athlete Tyrese Cooper test his ability against higher competition and he did in Sacramento, where he competed at the USA Championships in the 400m with a chance to go to London for the World Championships in August.

But while Cooper ran well in the first round -- of a three round process -- with a time of 45.45 seconds, he fell short in the semifinals.

That eliminated Cooper from Worlds, but the Florida native -- who just finished his sophomore year -- went back to the USA Junior Championships, where he qualified for the Pan American Championships with a win in the 200m in 20.89 seconds.

Cooper will wear the USA colors for the first time in July, when he and a contingent of American athletes will compete in Trujillo, Peru.
