Several Nebraska high school athletes set personal records and school marks at the NSAA Class State Championships on May 20.
Logan Rowell (Auburn) threw 182-0 in the discus, improving from his previous best of 164-8. The mark sets a school record for Auburn and ranks #7 in Nebraska among 1,958 athletes. Rowell finished 4th of 92 competitors.
Tayla Hurner (Wayne) ran 11:11.19 in the 3200 meters, cutting her time from 11:41.40. The Wayne freshman set a school record and ranks #13 in the state and #4 among freshmen. Hurner placed 9th of 95 competitors and also set a PR in the 800 meters, improving from 2:23.10 to 2:22.86.
Andrea Almanza (Wauneta-Palisade) ran 5:28.02 in the 1600 meters, dropping from her previous best of 5:43.48 set in May 2026. The junior's time sets a school record and ranks #69 in Nebraska among 1,120 athletes. Almanza finished 57th of 94 competitors and also improved her 800-meter time from 2:28.69 to 2:26.44.
Arian Mata (Hay Springs) clocked 4:42.27 in the 1600 meters, improving from 4:56.75. The freshman set a school record and ranks #129 in the state and #6 among first-year athletes. Mata placed 67th of 94 competitors.
Malachi Maly (Lincoln East) cleared 15-0 in the pole vault, adding a foot to his previous best of 14-0 from May 2026. The senior's mark sets a school record and ranks #6 in Nebraska among 612 athletes. Maly finished 7th of 77 competitors.
Lily Alberts (Grand Island Central Catholic) cleared 12-0 in the pole vault, improving from 11-4. The sophomore ranks #5 in the state among 550 athletes and #1 among sophomores. Alberts placed 5th of 83 competitors.
Lydia McGowen (Cambridge) ran 11:44.25 in the 3200 meters, cutting her time from 12:11.02. The freshman set a school record and ranks #41 in Nebraska and #8 among freshmen. McGowen finished 34th of 95 competitors and also improved her 800-meter time from 2:28.20 to 2:25.73.
