The outdoor track & field season is in full swing and we are wrapping up our fourth week of the year in the Cornhusker State. Next week, we will highlight the midseason leaders, but today, we will take a look at the best performances from around the state over the last week and see which Nebraska athletes are shining the brightest.

Sprint Events - Top Performers

Evan Svoboda, Norfolk - He put together a strong showing at the Grand Island Invitational, running 21.02 to win the 200m dash and move to NE #1 in the first month of the season. The sprinter also opened his year with a win in the 100m, signaling a fast season ahead in both events.

Braxton Badman, Waverly - Competing on his home track, he ran 38.13 to win the 300m hurdles and take over the top mark in the state. He also picked up a win in the 110m hurdles, showing versatility in both hurdle events.

Kevin Garcia Guzman, Dundy County-Stratton - He turned in a big day at the Don Stine Invitational, winning the 100m, 200m, and long jump. In the process, he set personal bests of 10.95 and 22.82 in the sprints, putting an exclamation point on a strong early-season performance.

Will Urosevich, Omaha Westside - He swept the 200m and 400m dashes at the Benson Invite, running 22.03 and 48.25 to win both events by a combined margin of 2.1 seconds. After placing eighth in the 400m at last year's state meet, he looks to be building toward another strong postseason and possibly climbing higher on the podium.

Mia Fries, Chase County - The freshman broke through at the Don Stine Invitational on Saturday, winning both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles for the first victories of her high school career. The performance marks an early accomplishment for what could become a very successful career.

Field Events - Top Performers

Ike Schmeckpeper, Gretna East - He moved to the top of the state leaderboard in the pole vault, clearing 15-7 to win the LNW Falcon Invite. The mark builds off a strong sophomore season that saw him place fourth at the Class B state meet.

Maizie Stoklasa, Clarkson/Leigh - She has been dominant across multiple events this season, remaining unbeaten through four meets. At the Pender Invitational, she set NE #1 marks in both the long jump (18-9.5) and triple jump (39-2), while also winning the high jump with a personal-best 5-5, just an inch off the state lead, and adding a victory in the 100m dash.

Natalie Merrick, Millard West - She turned in a strong day at the Benson Invite, winning both the shot put and discus competitions. She remains undefeated in the discus this season and has only dropped one shot put competition, finishing second in her season opener, meaning she should be in contention to podium at this spring's state meet.
