It's been a long winter, but with spring officially here, we can finally look ahead to the outdoor track season in Nebraska. With the second week of racing in the Cornhusker State behind us, it's time we take a look at the athletes who shined the brightest during the second week of the season.

Sprint Events - Top Performers

Beau Fujan, Bishop Neumann - He set a pair of NE #1's in the 200m dash and 110m hurdles en route to wins at the Jim Puetz Memorial. The senior also won the 100m dash, setting three personal bests on Tuesday - 10.82 (100m), 21.52 (200m), and 13.98 (110mH).

Mason Giebler, North Platte St. Patrick's - The senior won the 100m and 200m dashes at the Hershey/NPSP Invite on Saturday, setting a personal best in the shortest sprint event, running a 10.71, the fastest wind-legal time run in Nebraska this season.

Hazel Haarberg, Kearney Catholic - After two weeks, she owns the top time in the 100m and 200m dashes following her two wins at her home meet on Tuesday. The senior looks to continue one of the most impressive ongoing feats in state history: remaining undefeated in 200m finals races in her 4-year career.

Anisten Wortmann, Hartington Cedar Catholic - She picked up three victories at her home meet on Tuesday, winning the 200m dash, 100m hurdles, and 300m hurdles. She set an early-season NE #1 in the shortest hurdle race, running 14.47 in her season opener in the event.

Abigael Spargo, Dundy-County Stratton - The sophomore won both hurdle events in her season opener, setting a state-leading time of 45.04 in the 300m hurdles at the Southern Valley Invite.

Field Events - Top Performers

Chayden Hoffmaster, Cozad - He picked up a pair of wins in the long jump and triple jump at the Holdrege Invite, jumping 23-10 in the long jump, good enough for an early-season NE #1.

Noah Rau, Chase County - The senior set the All-Time NE #1 mark in the discus throw last May and has hit the ground running in 2026, throwing 199-11 en route to winning the Perkins County Invite, setting a US #3 in the event. He also won the shot put with a 51-6.

Erinn Briggs, Columbus Lakeview - After finishing last season as the state-leader in the event, the senior once again finds herself back at the top of the discus rankings with her throw of 148-10 at the Jim Puetz Memorial. She has won the shot put and discus competitions at both meets she has competed in this season and will be looking to win her second straight state title next month. 

Maizie Stoklasa, Clarkson/Leigh - She started her season winning four events at Tuesday's Stanton Invitational, including three field events - the high jump, long jump, and triple jump. The state runner-up from last season long jumped 18-6.75, establishing herself as the newest NE #1 in the event.

Distance Events - Top Performers

        Ethan Smith, Northwest - The junior scored a pair of victories in a pair of long-distance races at the Aurora Invitational last Friday. He set a personal best time in the 1,600m of 4:22, while also running 9:46 in the 3,200m. Both times are ranked first in the state after two weeks of racing in the Cornhusker State.

        Avery Arens, Crofton - Coming off a cross country state title this fall, the freshman got her season off to a quick start, capturing wins in the 800m, 1,600m, and 3,200m events. She set a personal best in the 3,200m, running an 11:10, while also setting the fastest mile time run in the state so far this season.

        Jaelyn Witter, Kearney Catholic - The junior is undefeated through four races this spring, having won the 1,600m and 3,200m events at various meets. She set a personal best time of 5:20 in the 1,600m last Friday and is looking to build off her 3rd place finish on the grass this fall.
