Women's Cross Country Finishes 12th, Men 22nd in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton women's cross country team finished in 12th place at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb. The men's team finished 22nd. There were 27 teams in the women's race and 26 in the men's, and both the men and women finished fifth in the Unviersity Division, the division made up of only NCAA Division I schools.

The women's team was led by freshman Hannah Connealy who finished in 48th place overall. Running on her first career 6,000 meter course, she finished in 22:53. It was the second-straight race that Connealy has led the team to open the season, She was also the first Bluejay across the finish line two weeks ago at the 5,000 meter CU/UNO Cross Country Invitational. Of the 266 total runners in the race, Lara Crofford from Nebraska had the best time (20:32).

The second Creighton finisher was freshman Kara Telfer who finished 70th with a time of 23:18. Senior melissa Greig and sophomore Ally Lynn finished 78th and 85th. Their times were 23:28 and 23:36 respectively. Creighton's scoring in the women's race was rounded out by freshman Ashley Loerts who finished 89th with a time of 23:38.

The Creighton men were led for the first time this year by sophomore Stephen VanGampleare. He finished 93rd with a time of 27:22 in the 8,000 meter race. The time was 49 seconds faster than his time at the same meet last year. David Adams from Nebraska was the individual champion with a time of 24:29.

The next-best finisher for the men was freshman Mike Hitt who finished 131st with a time of 27:49. Creighton's scoring was rounded out by a junior and two freshmen: Jared Dittman finished 151st with a time of 28:03; Mike Neisius finished 182nd with a time of 28:27; and Mike Farley finished 194th with a time of 28:36. There were 341 total runners in the men's race.

Both teams will compete again next weekend at the Dean White Invitational hosted by Doane College on Saturday in Crete, Neb.
