Marty Kinsey Named Assistant Cross Country Coach

OMAHA, Neb. – New Creighton University cross country head coach Chas Davis has hired Marty Kinsey to be his assistant coach. Kinsey will work with both the men's and women's cross country teams at Creighton.

Kinsey competed collegiately at Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif., where he was a three-time team captain. He helped the Gaels to a second-place finish in the West Coast Conference as a junior in 1999, the school's best finish ever at the league meet. Kinsey was also a member of the NCAA Student Athletic Advisory Committee at the school from 1999-2001. He earned his bachelor's degree in History from Saint Mary's.

Kinsey also was an assistant track coach at his alma mater, Granada High School, which is located west of the San Francisco Bay Area. Several of his runners would go on to run at the collegiate level.

As a competitor at GHS from 1994-97, Kinsey helped the Matadors to a second-place finish at the CIF California State High School Cross Country Championships and set school records for the mile (4:24), 5,000 meters (15:52) and the distance medley relay. He owns a five-mile PR of 25:48 and has completed six marathons.

He and his wife Genevieve have a daughter, Kaitlyn.

Davis returned to his alma mater in May as head coach. He competed for the Bluejays from 2001-04.
