Cross Country Teams Unveil Fall Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton University men's and women's cross country teams have released their fall 2009 schedule. The teams will compete in eight meets in five different states before hoping to qualify for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.

“We have an excellent balance to our schedule this season,” said new Creighton head coach Chas Davis. “We'll see the full spectrum of competition we haven't seen in the past as well as a better look at Missouri Valley competition on the MVC Championship course two weeks before the actual championship race.  Several meets will be new for the team this year, the experience from which will be crucial to both our short-term goals this season and our long-term success.”

As in past years, Creighton and Nebraska-Omaha will co-host the Creighton/UNO Invitational on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend (Sept. 5) to open the season. The meet will be held at Chili Greens Golf Course, with the 5K women's race to begin at 8 am. The men's race will begin at 8:45 am and be 8,000 meters in length.

After a weekend off, Creighton will travel west on I-80 to Lincoln on Sept. 19 for the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational. That meet will take place at Pioneers Park, site of the 2006 State Farm MVC Cross Country Championships.

Creighton rounds out its tour of the state on September 26th with the Dean White Invitational, hosted by Doane College.

The Jays will compete in four meets in the month of October, starting October 2nd with the adidas Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational in South Bend, Ind. One week later the Jays head north to Vermillion, S.D., where it runs in the Tim Young Open.

Creighton makes the first of consecutive trips to Peoria, Ill., on Oct. 16th, when it runs in the Bradley Classic. That meet will give the Bluejay harriers a taste of the same Newman Golf Course layout that will host the State Farm MVC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 31st, its biggest meet of the year.

This year's NCAA Midwest Regional Championships will take place in Springfield, Mo., on Nov. 14th. The top two teams at each Regional, as well as 13 at-large squads and 38 individuals, will qualify for the NCAA Championships. This year's championship meet will take place on Nov. 23rd in Terre Haute, Ind.

Practice begins August 19th for both Creighton cross country teams.
